One of the biggest perks of spring skiing in Val d’Isère is the mix of great spring snow and blue skies. Val d’Isère’s high-altitude slopes (with lifts reaching over 3,400m at the Glacier du Pissaillas), ensures that the snow conditions remain excellent well into April and May. The combination of cold nights and strong daytime sun makes the go through a freeze-thaw cycle, with frozen, groomed slopes softening throughout the morning to deliver windows of great spring snow skiing.

Fewer crowds and more runs

With fewer visitors compared to peak winter months, there are shorter lift queues and fewer people riding down the wide Val d’Isère pistes. Even iconic runs such as La Face de Bellevarde offer more space to throw big arcing turns in the spring snow. The piste offers a steep end section that is a dream to ski in soft, spring snow.

Val d’Isère winds down with a bang

Despite fewer visitor numbers in spring, Val d’Isère doesn’t end the winter with a whimper, instead the place is buzzing with crowded terraces and end of season parties. La Folie Douce is all about T-shirts and dance music, ponds are filled for a bit of water skimming.

There is never a bad time to be in Val d’Isère, yet while many lower ski areas are closing for the season, spring is one of the best times of the year to on the snow of Val d’Isère – it’s like the winter that keeps on giving.
