Val Thorens

Val Thorens skiing

Part of the world’s biggest and possibly most famous ski area – Les 3 Vallées, Val Thorens sits at the top of the pile. It is the highest ski resort in the Alps at 2300m and the highest skiing amongst the whopping 600km of ski pistes in the 3 Valleys. The Val Thorens ski area itself has 150km of that total.

Val Thorens is as snow sure as it gets in the Alps, with glacier skiing on the Pointe de Thorens and Glacier de Péclet and a resort height of 2300m. Heading into Les 3 Vallées from Val Thorens, skiers reach the superb Méribel ski sector and, beyond that, the world-famous snow and swagger of Courchevel.

The Val Thorens offers a great mix of terrain with steeps at the Combe de Caron and gentle wide pistes around the village. Given the scale of the combined ski area, the variety of terrain is superb.

Val Thorens apres ski

Offering some of the best après ski in the region, Val Thorens has the iconic La Folie Douce on the slopes above the resort. Afternoons spent on the terrace of this pumping après ski hut are memorable. Given its height, Val Thorens après ski goes late into the spring with huge, themed parties and festivals.

In the resort itself, there are several bars to enjoy the après ski including Bar 360 with its lively terrace.

Val Thorens ski school

The area around Val Thorens is ideal for beginner skiers, with wide, flat sections that are dedicated learning areas. For the better skiers and snowboarders who want to explore the superb off-piste of Val Thorens, guides are available.

Val Thorens transfers

One of the longer aiprport transfers in the region, but worth the extra 30 minutes to access the highest resort in the Alps. Ski in, ski out convenience at a cloud-piercing 2300m – Val Thorens resort is higher than the top stations of many ski areas.

Val Thorens for non-skiers

Despite its high altitude and remote location, Val Thorens offers a good deal to do for non-skiers. An ice driving circuit is located on the edge of the resort, whilst snowmobiling offers a variation on the mechanised theme. Snowshoe walks are popular and leave from the village, while a spa is a good place to relax after the thrills of a tandem paragliding flight.
