Val d’Isere

Val d’Isere skiing

The world-famous ski resort of Val d’Isère shares its ski area with Tignes to offer a total of 300km of skiing. With a resort height of 1850m and a top height of 3456m on the Glacier de la Grande Motte in Tignes Val d’Isère skiing is some of the highest in the Alps.

Beginners will ski in the learner’s area on the edge of the village, while the Solaise sector offers some great beginner terrain.

Intermediate skiers and snowboarders have huge areas of terrain to explore, all the way over into the Tignes sector of the ski area. The Pissaillas Glacier above Val d’Isère offers great cruising terrain and a taste of high-altitude skiing.

Lurking above Val d’Isère is the FIS race piste, Face de Bellevarde, a testing, steep piste that offers a great challenge for expert skiers and snowboarders. Le Fornet offers some great off-piste terrain, whilst a guided descent into the Vallon (valley) de Prariond is an absolute highlight via the Col Pers off-piste route. Guides are essential for this back-country excursion.

Val d’Isere apres ski

One of the heavyweights of French après ski, Val d’Isère boasts the iconic La Folie Douce on the slopes above La Daille. DJ sets play during the afternoon as the terrace heaves with revellers.

To take guests through to the early hours Dick’s Tea Bar enjoys a central location and an iconic status.

Val d’Isere ski school

Beginner skiers can hone their crafts on the lower slopes at the edge of the village and later on the mountain in the Solaise sector of the ski area.

Intermediate skiers and snowboarders will likely head off with a piste map to explore the rolling blue and red pistes in the huge ski area independently.

The best skiers and snowboarders are advised to take a guide and explore the superb off-piste terrain around Le Fornet and the epic route into the Prariond Valley.

Val d’Isere for non-skiers

Val d’Isère is a mega resort with a great deal on offer for non-skiers. There are winter walks in the valley and on the mountain, snowshoe hikes through the forests.
