Low rise resort
La Clusaz is a resort comprising Traditional wooden chalets and small hotels. The historic church in the village centre dominates the skyline and offers a village square with space to admire the incredible peaks. Nothing stands taller than the church, and no hotels dominate the village. The resort has several boutique shops, including the super-stylish yet discreet Candide Thovex Store. This central area opens directly onto the ski slopes for a further sense of space.
The natural setting
The Avaris range of mountains creates a wonderful backdrop to the low-rise village. The range is jagged, fairly linear and stretches beyond the limits of the village – it is a stunning way to frame the village.
An authentic village
The economy of La Clusaz is dependent on tourism, yet this is a village with a weekly farmers market, representing the identity of the village and ensuring local supply chains are sustainable. There are intricate, unstructured streets around the resort centre – fascinating and unique back streets, farms and dwellings that add real character to the resort.
The home of the Candide Thovex
As well as being a beauty, La Clusaz is also a serious ski resort – this is the home resort of Candide Thovex, one of the stars of freeskiing movies.
